Detailed Role Description & Key Responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer 1 on the Risk Platform team, you will be directly involved in creating, maintaining, and improving systems that manage credit decisions, fraud detection, risk analytics, and collections. The data processed by these systems forms the backbone of critical business decisions at WEX.

Here is what your daily work responsibilities will look like:

  • System Design and Coding: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in modern programming languages like Java, C#, Golang, or Python. Participate in designing backend components for small to medium complexity platforms.
  • Data Pipelines & Analytics: Build scalable data pipelines for data ingestion, cleaning, processing, enrichment, and delivery. Learn and apply data modeling techniques and dimensional modeling concepts.
  • Infrastructure & DevOps: Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to manage cloud-based data platforms. Setup and manage automated CI/CD deployment pipelines with GitHub Actions.
  • Quality Assurance & Engineering Best Practices: Apply software development methodologies such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD). Write automated tests and participate in proactive code reviews.
  • Operations & Monitoring: Learn to support live production platforms by establishing proactive monitoring systems, rapid incident response procedures, and performance logging.
  • Continuous Learning & Collaboration: Work closely with senior engineers and team leads to understand business needs, accept constructive feedback, and upgrade technical capabilities constantly.
