IS&T acts as the digital backbone of Apple, building internal tools, processing secure transactions worldwide, and supporting over 2.5 billion active Apple devices.

Within IS&T, the Accessibility Center of Excellence (CoE) operates with a focused mission: to make sure every internal system, public website, customer portal, and web app built at Apple is completely accessible to all users, including people with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive disabilities. Apple strongly views accessibility as a basic human right, and this specialized team works constantly to maintain that high standard across all web projects.

Job Description & Core Responsibilities

As a Web Accessibility Engineer in the Accessibility CoE team, you will get hands-on experience working directly on high-scale web applications. Under the guidance of senior accessibility engineers, you will inspect websites, discover accessibility barriers, and help technical teams fix them using modern web standards.

Here is what your day-to-day responsibilities will look like:

  • Accessibility Auditing: Carry out technical evaluations on web applications using screen readers and automated testing tools to find compliance gaps against WCAG guidelines.
  • Code Remediation: Write clean, semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fixes to solve identified accessibility bugs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, UI/UX designers, and front-end developers across the project lifecycle to integrate accessible design patterns early on.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create structured audit reports detailing bugs found, exact reproduction steps, and clear technical suggestions for software engineers.
  • Learning & Content Creation: Assist in building training guides, reusable code snippets, and internal accessibility tooling to educate other teams at Apple.

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

Apple is keeping the entry requirement broad and welcoming for fresh graduates and early career developers. Below are the basic qualification guidelines:

  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or any related engineering discipline. Candidates with equivalent practical experience and strong self-taught front-end skills are also eligible.
  • Experience: 0 to 2 years of work experience in web accessibility or front-end engineering. Fresh graduates with good project work in accessibility are welcome.
  • Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka (On-site / Hybrid work setup as per Apple policy).

Required Skills & Preferred Qualifications

To stand out during the selection process, candidates should possess a good combination of web development basics and a clear interest in accessibility standards.

Technical Skill Set:

  • Core Web Fundamentals: Strong working knowledge of standard HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Understanding of semantic HTML tags is super important for this role.
  • Accessibility Guidelines: Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.x) and WAI-ARIA specifications to make complex interactive web components screen-reader friendly.
  • Assistive Technologies: Hands-on exposure to testing websites using popular screen readers like VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), NVDA, or JAWS (Windows).
  • Debugging & Remediation: Ability to inspect web pages using browser developer tools and write accessible code solutions.

Soft Skills & Mindset:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills to explain technical accessibility concepts clearly to developers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eagerness to learn new web tools, standards, and testing methodologies independently.
  • Attention to detail and a genuine interest in building inclusive digital experiences for all users.
