About Lenskart

Lenskart is one of India's largest omnichannel optical retail businesses. Over the past decade, the company has grown from an online spectacle store into a tech-driven powerhouse that designs, manufactures, and distributes eyewear across thousands of stores in India and international markets. Technology sits right at the heart of Lenskart's supply chain, manufacturing plants, warehouse systems, retail storefronts, and online app operations.

Working with Lenskart gives young engineers direct exposure to high-scale operations where software directly impacts physical product delivery. Lenskart's state-of-the-art automated manufacturing plants in Manesar and Bhiwadi rely heavily on robust web applications and database systems to manage custom optical order workflows in real time. Joining their technology team offers exposure to large-scale real-time manufacturing and supply chain tech systems.

Understanding the Java L1 Support Role

Level 1 (L1) Support in a high-tech manufacturing environment is a critical function. In simple terms, you act as the operational bridge between plant floor operations and core engineering teams. When warehouse operators or supervisors face glitches while processing eyeglass lenses, updating order statuses, or running automated machinery interfaces, you will be the first technical contact point responsible for resolving the issue.

Please note that this role operates during night shifts from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM at the Manesar / Bhiwadi plant location. Night shifts in production plants are crucial because manufacturing processes run around the clock, and immediate technical support ensures zero downtime in product fulfillment.

Detailed Key Responsibilities

As a Java L1 Support Engineer at Lenskart, your daily work will include a dynamic mix of technical troubleshooting, issue coordination, and bug triage. Here is what your day-to-day work environment will look like:

  • Production Issue Resolution: Monitor real-time web applications and databases in the plant to identify and fix technical glitches affecting operations.
  • Interfacing with Warehouse & Operations Teams: Communicate regularly with warehouse supervisors and plant operations staff to understand the functional problems they face during daily shifts.
  • Bridging Operations and Core Development: Translate non-technical operational feedback from plant staff into clear, precise technical language for the core engineering team.
  • Bug Triage & Management: Drive and manage the bug triage process by categorizing incoming technical issues based on priority, severity, and business impact.
  • Functional Requirement Analysis: Translate complex operational needs into clear technical requirements to support future product upgrades.
  • System Quality & Escalation Reporting: Prepare clear reports on product delivery status, software quality, open bugs, and ongoing system health for management and product managers.
  • Adoption of Engineering Practices: Help maintain high code and development standards across plant support tooling and keep up with open-source technologies to solve recurring problems.

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualifications

Lenskart has kept the eligibility criteria straightforward for this opening, making it an ideal position for early career candidates looking for a strong start:

  • Eligible Degrees: B.Tech in Computer Science / IT or MCA (Master of Computer Applications).
  • Experience Level: Freshers or candidates with up to 1 year of experience in Java development or technical support.
  • Shift Readiness: Must be comfortable working in a night shift environment from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  • Location Flexibility: Must be ready to work on-site at Lenskart's Manesar or Bhiwadi plant locations.

Required Technical & Soft Skills

To stand out during the selection process, candidates should possess a mix of core technical fundamentals and practical problem-solving capabilities:

  • Core Java Knowledge: Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, collections, exception handling, and basic backend web flow in Java.
  • MySQL & Database Basics: Ability to write SQL queries (SELECT, JOIN, UPDATE, GROUP BY) to inspect data inconsistencies or resolve database issues on the spot.
  • Web Application Architecture: Basic knowledge of client-server systems, REST APIs, HTTP protocols, and standard modern web stack tools.
  • Computer Science Fundamentals: Practical grasp of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and computer networks.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical issues clearly to non-tech plant teams as well as core developers.

Selection & Interview Process

The recruitment process at Lenskart generally involves multiple stages to test basic technical skills and practical problem-solving ability:

  1. Application Screening: Initial filtering of resumes based on qualification (B.Tech CS / MCA) and technical skill match.
  2. Technical Assessment / Interview: Evaluation of Java core concepts, SQL query writing, web applications, and basic debugging logical questions.
  3. Scenario-Based Round: Situational interview assessing how you handle real-time production issues and communicate with cross-functional teams.
  4. HR Round: Final discussion regarding shift flexibility (night shift 9 PM - 6 AM), plant location deployment, and salary structure.
