Kulfi Off-Campus Drive: Software Engineer I (Product / Full-Stack)
Finding a product-first engineering job right out of college can be tricky, especially when most companies ask for multiple years of work experience or filter candidates out based solely on their college tier or degree. Kulfi is doing things quite differently. They have just opened applications for a Software Engineer I (Product / Full-Stack) position in Bengaluru, offering a generous fixed pay package between 9 LPA and 15 LPA plus company ESOPs. The best part? A formal computer science degree is not even required. If you love building, have shipped real code, and know how to take responsibility for user experience, this opening deserves your full attention.

About Kulfi and What They Build
India is home to nearly 100 million unmarried couples who often find it tough to spend private, meaningful time together on everyday evenings. Between living in different cities, navigating family spaces, or managing hectic schedules, their smartphone screen is often the only window they share. Many end up staying on silent calls or trying to watch videos together over awkward screen shares. There was practically no dedicated digital space built specifically for this massive community.
Kulfi stepped in to solve this exact problem. It is a shared digital experiences platform designed for couples, already used by close to a million people across India. The team has seen phenomenal viral growth without paid advertisements, with daily active users multiplying four times in under a month. Remarkably, around 80% of app activity happens right between 9 PM and midnight when couples unwind before bed. Backed by South Park Commons and prominent angel investors, founders, and startup leaders from brands like Swiggy, Mosaic Wellness, Snitch, and Moonshot, Kulfi is expanding rapidly. The team is now rolling out an AI-driven personalization game engine that dynamically creates new interactive games tailored to each couple daily.
Role Breakdown & Day-to-Day Responsibilities
At Kulfi, the engineering culture is lean, fast-paced, and high-ownership. As a Software Engineer I on the product team, you will not be siloed into just fixing minor UI bugs or writing repetitive database queries. You will build and deliver product features end-to-end across multiple layers of their technology ecosystem:
- End-to-End Feature Development: Build and ship user-facing capabilities across the mobile client (Flutter), web touchpoints, backend REST APIs, and databases.
- Polished User Experiences: Translate design files and product ideas into complete user journeys, making sure loading states, empty screens, network failure prompts, and retries are carefully considered.
- Cross-Layer Debugging: Trace and resolve bugs across client UI, network roundtrips, backend microservices, and database layers instead of assuming an issue belongs to someone else.
- Code Quality & Verification: Write unit and integration tests, review your own pull requests critically before asking teammates for approvals, and verify behavior in staging environments.
- Metric-Driven Development: Keep track of user engagement signals, crash analytics, and community feedback to check whether a newly shipped feature actually worked as planned.
- Leverage AI Tools Responsibly: Use modern coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Codex to speed up your development without sacrificing deep code comprehension.
Eligibility Criteria & Who Should Apply
Kulfi operates on a strict merit-and-output policy. Traditional hiring filters like having a specific 4-year computer science degree, maintaining a 9+ CGPA, or graduating from premier engineering institutes are not prerequisites here. Instead, here is what they are looking for:
- Batch & Experience: Open to fresh graduates (2024, 2025, or 2026 batches) and developers with 0 to 1 year of professional experience.
- Real Proof of Work: You must have built and launched at least one working software product, freelance project, open-source repository, or substantive internship deliverable that other people can try or inspect on GitHub.
- Full-Stack Curiosity: Practical familiarity across at least two distinct technical layers: frontend/mobile, backend/API, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
- Location Requirement: You must be open to working from their physical office in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. Remote work is not offered for this role because of the close-knit, high-velocity collaboration required.
Key Skills and Desirable Tech Stack
While the team values curiosity and problem-solving skills above a memorized checklist of frameworks, having exposure to the following technologies will give you a notable advantage during the assessment rounds:
- Flutter & Dart: Hands-on knowledge of cross-platform mobile development, widget trees, and standard state management libraries like Riverpod or BLoC.
- Backend Engineering: Solid understanding of building clean RESTful APIs using Node.js, Python, Go, or Java.
- Databases & Systems: Working knowledge of SQL queries, data modeling, Redis caching, or message queues.
- Product Thinking: Keen attention to design nuances, micro-animations, and understanding why an error message might confuse an everyday user.
- Deployment & DevOps: Basic familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), or app store release workflows.
Interview Process Explained
The recruitment process at Kulfi is intentionally transparent, pragmatic, and designed around practical coding rather than abstract algorithmic puzzles:
- Application & Project Review: The engineering leads review your submitted live projects, portfolio links, and source code.
- Short Screening Call (15–20 Mins): A quick conversation to discuss your background, engineering interests, and mutual alignment with the startup culture.
- Product Engineering Practical Round (75 Mins): A deep dive into your existing projects, followed by a live building task, handling changed requirements on the fly, and discussing UX tradeoffs. AI coding tools are permitted during this task, provided you can defend and explain every line of code written.
- Founder & Alignment Discussion (30 Mins): A two-way conversation covering long-term vision, expectations, growth paths, and compensation details.
How to Apply
To put your best foot forward, make sure your GitHub profile is updated, live demo URLs are working properly, and your resume highlights real challenges you solved while building projects. When answering the open-ended application questions on the portal, write your genuine thoughts clearly instead of generating boilerplate responses.
Tip: Apply early as applications are screened on a rolling basis. Ensure your portfolio links and contact details are accurate.
