Detailed Job Description & Core Responsibilities

As an Associate Software Engineer in the Information Technology division, you will join the IT Production Support team. Production support is the backbone of financial services, ensuring that payment applications run smoothly without interruptions or unexpected downtime. Your daily tasks will go beyond simple monitoring to include debugging live systems, automating repetitive operational tasks, and writing scripts to boost system stability.

Here is a detailed breakdown of what you will be doing day-to-day:

  • System Monitoring & Issue Resolution: Keep track of live production workflows and applications. Detect errors early, investigate log files, and resolve system issues promptly to maintain service continuity.
  • Database Querying & Debugging: Write custom SQL and PL/SQL queries to analyze database states, identify missing data, debug backend issues, and support live business requests.
  • Scripting & Task Automation: Use Python and UNIX shell scripting to create utility scripts that automate manual operational tasks, clean up routine processing queues, and minimize manual errors.
  • Batch Job Scheduling: Manage, schedule, and troubleshoot automated batch jobs using industry-standard scheduling tools such as Control-M (CTM), Composer, or $U.
  • Hybrid Cloud Operations: Support applications running on traditional on-premises infrastructure as well as modern Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.
  • Rotational Shift Duty: Work across morning, day, and night shifts on a regular rotational basis (including weekends when required) to ensure 24/7 uptime for worldwide payment services.

Work Shift Timings

Because financial applications operate continuously around the clock, this position requires working in flexible rotational shifts. The standard shift timings (Indian Standard Time) are structured as follows:

  • Shift 1 (Morning): 06:00 AM to 03:00 PM IST
  • Shift 2 (Day/Evening): 02:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST
  • Shift 3 (Night): 10:00 PM to 07:00 AM IST

Eligibility Criteria

Global Payments maintains specific educational and experience requirements for this role. Ensure you meet these conditions before applying:

  • Education: Candidates must have completed a minimum of 16 years of formal education. Eligible degrees include B.E, B.Tech, M.Tech, or equivalent engineering streams.
  • Experience: 0 to 1 year of hands-on or internship experience in IT production support, application maintenance, or software operations.
  • Shift Flexibility: Candidates must be completely comfortable working in rotational shifts across all days of the week, including morning, evening, and night shifts.
  • Location Willingness: Must be ready to work out of the Global Payments office in Pune, Maharashtra.

Required & Preferred Skill Sets

To clear the technical evaluation round, applicants should have a solid grasp of foundational programming and database skills:

Must-Have Technical Skills

  • Python Proficiency: Basic to intermediate Python skills for reading code, writing utility scripts, and debugging logic.
  • SQL & PL/SQL: Capability to write simple to complex SQL joins, subqueries, and PL/SQL blocks to inspect database records and debug issues.
  • UNIX Commands & Scripting: Practical knowledge of basic Linux/UNIX commands, file navigation, log analysis, and simple shell scripts.
  • Scheduling Tools: Familiarity with job schedulers like Control-M, Composer, or $Universe.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong logical thinking to systematically isolate bugs and resolve system errors during production incidents.

Good-to-Have (Optional) Skills

  • Basic knowledge of public cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Working knowledge of ABI platforms for code enhancement and quick fix implementations.
  • Prior exposure to continuous integration and automated workflow scripts.
